With the recent heat wave and the active jobseeking Ive been doing of late, I’ve been looking for jobs in green-technology related fields.  Only thing is, I, like many, have limited experience and depth of knowledge in this area.  To help with this, I thought I would do some research on what green-tech is about, and wanted to start with a primer on Earth Day.

To begin, I found details on Green  Technology through Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_technology

I was especially taken with the reference to Green Computing, with it’s reference to the three principles of the “triple bottom line.”  As indicated in the article, this refers to the goals of being able to  “reduce the use of hazardous materials, maximize energy efficiency during the product’s lifetime, and promote recyclability or biodegradability of defunct products and factory waste.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_computing

So how does this translate to jobs?  Well, in order to communicate effectively about a particular field, industry or technology, a jobseeker must become clearly knowledgeable of that field, but be able to outline what are the business challenges and opportunities in that field, and how they relate back to their particular skill-set or experience, and how, as a candidate, they can provide value for firms hiring in this area.

I would ask those reading this article, to consider the types of “green jobs” they would be interested in pursuing,, and to contemplate how your background, skills, and experience would provide value for the companies hiring in this area.  Whail it is important to consider firms and positions that support a more sustainable planet and eco-structure, we, as jobseekers, must also consider how to best create value and therefore success for these firms and ourselves.

I welcome any and all comments, and in the menatime, I will provide some “Green Job” search sites I have found:
