Sorry for the tongue-in-cheek tone, but I’m interested in finding out what readers are reading these days. Many get into sites like Twitter and others to get little bits of info sent to us. In some cases, it’s an some news story, or someones rant about some horror story at what was once their favorite restaurant, etc.
I am especially interested in learning what sites jobseekers are following on a daily basis. I’m not looking for hard numbers (“what percentage of active web-surfers click into particular pages”, etc.), but more anecdotal feedback on what sites you find useful to spend your time on. Is it all about job search, and if so, what sites? Are you researching potential companies to work for? Do you want to know about salary? Living conditions? etc., etc.
Aside from the job seeking, where else do you spend your time? looking at recipes? finding directions to get somewhere? Any input would be much appreciated.
I can kick this off:
Today, I spent almost zero (0) time on the web except to write this blog and answer some email. Today, I was at a salvage lot looking for parts for my 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback. I’ve learned that once a car gets to a certain age, it is increasingly difficult to find spares for parts that break or get stolen. Recently, two front-end, side-marker light assemblies were stolen off the car, and I am having the hardest time trying to get replacements. Luckily the salvage lots have had some useful parts. So far, I was able to fix a faulty window and gearshift, and replace the tires. However, no luck as yet either with the side-markers or the sockets.
Prior to the salvage lot, I had gone the rout of researching online for parts and perusing local general-purpose auto-repair stores. Most of the major auto repair stores do not carry these vintage parts, and the one that did can only order the outside assemblies , not the electrical sockets for the lights. Tonight, I will probably have another go online for suppliers for what I need.
For those interested, here are the sites I have been on today:
