The gist:

Sorry folks.  I’ve been busy a bit with work and a few other things, so some extracurriculars have suffered.  I hope to try to have mor accessible content on a regular basis.  It just depends on bandwidth.  That said, what should we talk about today?  How about another job search site?  If interested, please read on.

The site I am featuring in this post is Startuply.com, a beta job search portal targeted for start-up’s looking to build their headcount on the sly.  Much of the content on this free site allows the users to control who they search for, as well as divulge details about their enterprises.  One of the advantages is that you can submit an anonymous profile in case you need discretion re: what you are looking for, or what your company happens to be building.

This site has some useful tools, including mouseover previews of content, tabs, and simplified and advanced search functions.  From a high-level review, I would say this site is fairly useful.  Considering it’s niche, this site is not groundbreaking, or even that innovative, but they do provide a clean and useful interface that gets you what you need.

The verdict:

If you are interested in working for a startup, and you have some time on your hands, this might be a good site to find something.  Keep in mind that most start-up’s have some inherent risks:

  1. Most hire experienced folks to help them create, build, or implement structure that currently does not exist.
  2. Most startup’s are at the whim of financing, and when that is at risk, it may or may not strain how they operate.
  3. Most startup’s do not contain deep structure, albeit infrastructure, systems, rules, or detailed processes and procedures to follow.  Much of what you do, you create as you go.

Neat stuff. I’m a big fan of startuphire.com where the focus is on VC backed startups. There is still some risk, but these tend to be the most promising and well funded young companies.

      Hi Ryan,

Sorry this took a little while. I wanted to thank you for posting. I was wondering if you would be willing to connect on LinkedIn or Plaxo? If so, I will forward an invite. Also, I’m always looking for things to blog about and would love to swap war stories.

      Let me know.

I too had originally thought startuply.com was a great source.. only to discover their job posting dates are not factual. They are continuously incrementing the month to make their postings appear current.

My recommendation: don’t waste your time. The job your applying for was filled months ago.

Thanks Mark for your candid comments. I will have to take some time to look this site over and maybe do an updated review. Also, I’m be curious: has anyone else experienced the same phenomenon? If so, I would love to hear about it.
